Recently it has been implemented in Ubuntu linux KDE and GNOME (partial) desktop environments a kind of folder metadata labeling with special metadata.desktop files. These files display a content (eg a name) which is not the actual file name. They also may contain other useful information for classifying the related folder. Here is their structure:

In Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 the frequency scaling GNOME applet always requires a password in order to allow you to change CPU frequency or governor. If you get the following error at login The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:Glipper that means your computer if pretty fast and glipper loads too fast. The workaround consists in slowing down glipper starup a few seconds.

With the Network-Manager shipped along with Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 is impossible to connect to any DSL Provider that has been manually set. To get back this feature you have to upgrade to the latest Network-Manager provided by the maintainers PPA:
